Our Portraits provides portrait services for all occasions: newborn, birthday, first co mmunion, holiday, graduation, engagement, adult and family portraits, passport photos and portrait greeting cards.
When you hear the word portrait do you cringe, We do too. Your photo should reflect a piece of who you are and we know that you're not that stiffly-posed, fake-grin type, right?
Consultations are an important part of the photographic process especially when it comes to portraiture. We want you to be comfortable with us and vice versa so getting together to chat about ideas you have for your shots and allowing us to make suggestions makes the process more personal. We like that. By getting to know you a bit it helps us determine what style to shoot and also gives you a chance to look at our work and tell us what appeals to you.
Portraits can be done either in our studio or on location depending on what style you're going for. If you have a place in mind we'd be happy to scope it out with you before a shoot. This could be at your home, the beach, favourite coffee shop...the possiblities are endless. If you don't have a location in mind, no worries, we know a ton of cool places so we can help you make up your mind.
Here are some general guidelines for taking good portraits:
Use longer focal lengths instead of shorter . This will make your subject's face more natural and less bulbous.
Use a wide aperture for shallow depth of field. This will focus attention on your subject and not your background.
Avoid distracting backgrounds.
Avoid taking pictures where part of your subject's face is in shadow unless you really know what you're doing.
Avoid using a single flash pointing directly at the subject. This will create harsh shadows on either the subject of the area behind the subject.
